Type 1 Diabetes
Usually diagnosed in children and young adults, type 1 diabetes was previously known as
juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin, the hormone
necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar, the basic fuel for the cells in the
body, is taken from the blood into the cells via insulin. Don't panic if you are diagnosed
with Type 1 diabetes. Although diabetes is a serious disease, people with diabetes can live
long, healthy, happy lives.
