Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to simply as diabetes, is a disease of the immune system which causes a metabolic disorder characterized by an inability to transport sugar from the bloodstream into cells.

Most undiagnosed diabetics give some indication of their underlying condition. These diabetic signs and symptoms include drinking and urinating excessively, mood changes, and a few other overt behaviors.

If untreated, diabetes mellitus can lead to severe complications or can even be fatal.
